Pick Apache Superset when
- You want dashboards readable by everyone without paying per reader.
- Your data already lives in a proper warehouse and someone writes SQL.
- You have somewhere to run it and someone who will patch it.
Stay with a hosted BI tool when
- You are under ~10 people — price the hosted option first; your own hours cost more.
- You need the polish and the guided-analytics features non-analysts expect.
The migration cost nobody mentions
Charts rebuild by hand. The hidden cost is upgrades: this is a multi-service deployment, and skipping versions gets painful.
